Computer Networks

Cybersecurity
  • ApresentaçãoPresentation
This course aims to provide students with a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of computer networks and their direct relationship to cybersecurity. It explores the main concepts of network communication, protocols, topologies, reference models, and interconnection devices, highlighting the security implications at each layer. It covers topics such as network segmentation, access control, traffic monitoring, and attack detection and mitigation in a network environment. It also includes a more introductory section on vulnerability and threat analysis in enterprise network infrastructures and the application of best network security practices. Knowledge is consolidated through practical exercises and case studies that enable students to plan, configure, audit, and secure networks, reinforcing their understanding of defense and incident response mechanisms.
  • ProgramaProgramme
    • Fundamentals of Computer Networks: Basic concepts, OSI and TCP/IP models: layers, protocols, and services, Topologies, transmission media, and devices. IP Addressing and Subnetting • Network Security: Principles of Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability, Cryptography Applied to Network Communication, Authentication, Authorization, and Access Control, Network Segmentation and VLANs as Security Measures • Network Vulnerabilities, Threats, and Attacks: Types of Attacks: Spoofing, Sniffing, DoS/DDoS, Man-in-the-Middle,  Intrusion Detection and Mitigation, Network Monitoring and Auditing, Traffic Analysis and Monitoring Tools (Wireshark, Nmap, Snort, etc.) • Labs and Practical Projects: Configuration and Security of Local and Remote Networks, Implementation of VPNs, Firewalls, and IDS/IPS, Preparation of a Technical Network Security Report
  • ObjectivosObjectives
    • Understand the fundamentals of computer networks and their architecture, including reference models and main communication protocols. • Identify vulnerabilities, threats, and risks associated with network infrastructures. • Understand the security mechanisms and tools applicable to protecting corporate networks. • Understand the role of networks in cybersecurity, especially in incident detection, prevention, and response. • Use traffic analysis and intrusion detection tools to identify anomalies and attacks. • Perform network security tests and audits, interpreting results critically. • Develop critical thinking and decision-making skills based on real-world cybersecurity scenarios.
