The impact of inflation on tourism and monetary policy on tourism Seasonality in tourism demand and supply. The elasticity of demand, supply and income. Costs in tourism enterprises. The market balance and the impact of competition. Types of market and operating patterns. 2. Macroeconomic concepts of tourism. The income and the national product. Circular flow of income. Inflation and unemployment. Employment and wages The balance by the Keynesian model. Tourism and Balance of Payments. The impact of the exchange rate on international trade 3. ObjectivosObjectivesThis course unit develops applied economic analysis skills for tourism, integrating microeconomics, macroeconomics and key tools to measure tourism’s economic contribution. By the end of the course, students should be able to: Explain and apply microeconomic concepts to tourism markets (demand, supply, elasticities, costs and market equilibrium/competition); Interpret relevant macroeconomic indicators (GDP/national income, inflation, unemployment, balance of payments and exchange rates) and discuss their implications for tourism; Use Tourism Satellite Account principles to assess tourism’s economic weight and distinguish direct and indirect effects (including multipliers); Analyse data and communicate evidence-based conclusions through written reports and oral presentations, adhering to academic integrity and ethical standards.
