    Completion of Engineering degree in Occupational Safety enables the student applies for professional certification as Senior Technical Safety and Hygiene (level 6), as this course is approved by ACT - Authority for Working Conditions in accordance with the referential introduced by the Certification Manual for Technician Safety and Hygiene of former IDICT (Institute for Development and Inspection of Working Conditions). The thematic area of the Emergency Organisation is one of the subject areas to be addressed as part of the syllabus recommended in the Certification Manual. This curricular unit of Fire Prevention and Protection against its main objective to prepare students, within theoretical and practical training for this complex and current regulatory legacy, the Emergency Organization.

    Contents: The fire risk. The fire dynamics. Risk of fire analysis. Fire fighting. Passive safety measures against fire. Active safety measures against fire. The fire safety regulations.
  • ObjectivosObjectives
    Objectives: Identify major risk factors of fire. Define the phenomenology of combustion. Distinguish the various sources of fire and explosion. Know the methods of extinguishing fires. Scaling the fire load. Describe the methods and techniques of passive safety against fire. Describe the methodologies and techniques for active safety against fire. Identify prevention systems and fire fighting and related design criteria. Apply the rules of fire safety.

    Teaching Method: According to the objectives of this course the theoretical-practical and practical classes, teaching methods planned are: Lectures for exposition of the subject (lecture method and interrogative) with presentations and discussions by the students (an active and participatory). Presentation of practical examples using dynamic image and group work. Presentation of case studies, demonstrations and simulated practice. Assessment method: 2 tests with a minimum grade of 7.5 values and a weighting of 70% in the final grade. 1 Individual assignment with a minimum grade of 12 values and a weighting of 30% in the finalgrade. Period exam with a minimum grade of 9.5.
