Introduction to accounting and financial statements

  Historic evolution in accounting; the accounting profession; the institutions for accounting standars; the SNC in Portugal; framework for the preparation and presentation of Financial Statements; the Financial Statements and its content; accounts; the recognition of simple transactions.

  Syllabus Contents Historical evolution of accounting; The accounting standardisation system; Accounting vs. Taxation; Conceptual framework; Structure and content of financial statements; The basic rules for the movement of accounts;   Current operations: Purchases and accounts payable; Sales and accounts receivable; VAT and its accounting treatment; Treatment of purchases and sales with VAT; Inventories and their treatment under the intermittent or periodic inventory system; Other Income and Expenses / other accounts receivable and payable; Staff expenses.
• ObjectivosObjectives

  Objectives: Enhance knowledge about historic streems in accounting. Give knowledge in financial statements framework; recognition of the elements of financial statements: basic current. Competences: Be apt to perform basic operations in accounting, considering the framework to produce Financial Statements.

  Interactive synchronous classes using digital tools to promote active participation. Case study resolution and problem-based learning in an online environment. Use of spreadsheets and/or accounting software to simulate accounting entries and financial statements. Provision of digital resources to support autonomous learning and formative feedback.
