    This course provides students with an overview of the organizations and of their management in the context of modern society. To follow the evolution of the main theories of management. To analyze the key concepts and theories in the context of the functions of the management process. To address the different functional areas of organizations and their interrelations. To know the main trends of modern management and nowadays different organizational forms. To contextualize the organization in relation to its surroundings based on different organizational paradigms. To define mission, strategy and organizational goals. To characterize the various forms of organizational structure. To frame management subsystems in European and global context.

    I. Introduction to Organizational Management -Organizations and their environment. -Management and the roles of the manager. -Management approaches and their evolution. II. Organizational Planning - Analysis of the external environment - Analysis of the internal environment. - Defining mission, objectives, and strategies. - Decision-making: Decision-making models and group decision-making III. Organizational structures - Organizational structures: organizational macrostructures and microstructures - Complexity, formalization, and centralization IV. Controlling business activity - Perspectives on control in management - Management control: objectives and instruments - Control techniques. V. Intangible instruments of intervention in management - Motivation and satisfaction of needs. - Leadership styles and types. - Communication and its effects. - Organizational culture
  • ObjectivosObjectives
    Students should be able to understand the roles of managers in an organization (LO1); Identify and analyze the variables of the surrounding environment and the influence they have on organizations (LO2); analyze the interaction between the different functional areas of the organization (LO3); be able to perform a strategic analysis of the organization (LO4); define and know how to use the different tools for analyzing and controlling organizational processes (LO5); collect, process, and interpret information essential for the management of an organization (LO6).

    - Teste de avaliação escrito – 60%

    - Trabalho escrito e apresentação oral – 40%

     

    Avaliação por TAG:

    - Teste de avaliação global (TAG) – 100%

     

    Nota:

    Os estudantes que não tenham sucesso na avaliação contínua ou na avaliação por TAG podem realizar exames nas épocas de avaliação definidas pela instituição (normal e de recurso). Considera-se que um aluno teve sucesso numa UC se o mesmo obtiver uma nota final superior ou igual a 9,5 valores.
