Field trip to the exhibition dedicated to photographer Vivian Maier

Objetivos de Desenvoltimento Sustentável (ODS)
Students enrolled in the courses “Photography Lab,” “Image and Aesthetics Lab,” and “Audiovisual Language” participated in a field trip to an exhibition dedicated to the American photographer Vivian Maier.

On display at the Portuguese Center for Photography in Porto, the exhibition features more than 140 works by the artist. Organized by the Terra Esplêndida collective, the exhibition takes place in the year marking the centennial of Vivian Maier’s birth; her work was only discovered by chance after her death in 2007.

During the guided tour, the students gained a deeper understanding of the artist’s career and some of the most iconic works featured in the exhibition. The activity also allowed them to analyze and discuss, as a group, different aspects of her artistic production. This initiative reinforces concepts already covered in class and contributes to the development of the students’ aesthetic sensibility.

In addition, it provided an opportunity to explore the Portuguese Center of Photography, the other exhibitions on display there, and its important role in preserving and promoting photographic heritage.
