Research Methodologies and Data Analysis Techniques

Project Management
  • ApresentaçãoPresentation
The course has the following main objectives: Explain the foundations and conceptual framework of research methodology, analyze and discuss the assumptions of scientific methodology and the principles and process of research in management; Develop statistical thinking, allowing, given a specific problem, to indicate the correct statistical tools to be applied in solving it; To familiarize students with the software that allows solving statistical problems.
  • ProgramaProgramme
    1. Introduction to scientific research methodology: Basic concepts. Main research paradigms and methodologies. 2. Research process: Stages of the research process. Definition of the research problem and literature review. 3. Use of Generative AI-based tools to support scientific research. 4. Data collection methods and techniques: Primary and secondary data sources. Data collection techniques: observation, interviews, questionnaires. 5. Data analysis: Qualitative and quantitative methods. Use of software to analyze data. 6. Designing research projects: Structure and components of a research project. Criteria for evaluating research projects. 7. Ethics in Scientific Research: Ethical and integrity issues in research. Avoiding plagiarism and guaranteeing originality.
  • ObjectivosObjectives
The learning objectives of the course are as follows: O1. Introduce the foundations and conceptual framework of research methodology; analyze and discuss the assumptions of scientific methodology, the principles and process of research in project management. O2. Specify the foundations and identify the principles of scientific methodology. O3. Use tools based on generative AI to support scientific research. O4. Present methods for collecting, analyzing, and processing quantitative and qualitative data/information. O5. Develop concrete research proposals using logical, critical, and analytical reasoning in a creative manner with respect for ethical issues and research integrity. O6. Carry out structured research and literature review procedures. O7. Use statistical analysis software, interpret and report the outputs resulting from the application of appropriate statistical methods.

  • MetodologiaMethodology
The teaching and learning methods aim to develop knowledge and its application to real situations. In-class: M1. Lectures and practical classes that present content, include discussion, use questioning techniques, and include consolidation exercises. M2. Practical exercises to apply and discuss acquired knowledge. M3. Simulated practice using AI platforms for content creation. M4. Case studies of real research projects, using student-centered active methodologies to foster meaningful learning. Independent learning: M5. Consolidation of course content through additional research and supplementary assignments. The lecturer provides feedback on exercises and laboratory practice through tutorial support, either in person or via Moodle. Students can also interact with the Philix.ai virtual tutor, integrated into this platform.
