    This course examines the institutional organisation of tourism and the public policy cycle in a multi-level governance perspective (local, regional, national, EU and global). It addresses state and private actors, policy instruments (regulation, planning, incentives, information), destination governance and Destination Management Organizations (DMOs). The course combines theoretical grounding with case studies and applied exercises, developing students’ abilities in analysis, synthesis and evidence-based argumentation.

  • ObjectivosObjectives
    The curricular unit of Tourism Organization and Policy makes available to students the concepts, principles and terminologies related to the organizations that advocate the sectorial politics of tourism at national and international level. In this way it is intended to enable the students to acquire a global perspective that allows understanding and building knowledge around: a) the reasons, grounds and dimensions that determine the relationship between politics and tourism; b) the dimensions and links of tourism that determine public and private sector intervention; c) governmental responsibilities in the definition of tourism policy; d) the importance of strategic and integrated planning; e) existing public-private partnerships in tourism; f) the characterization of domestic tourism; g) international organizations involved in tourism; h) the institutional and associative structure of tourism in Portugal.

  • MetodologiaMethodology
    Multiple methods are used in a diversified way of transmitting content, namely: 1. Gamification through platforms like Kahoot to create quizzes; 2. Solving current problems through brainstorming 3. Analysis of multimedia content (videos, interviews) 4. Special guests to introduce challenges, opportunities and current issues.
