Higher education on the way to sustainability: a case study

Objetivos de Desenvoltimento Sustentável (ODS)
On April 24, a workshop was held to highlight the importance of addressing sustainability in higher education, during which participants discussed the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the 2021–2026 Strategy and Policy Statement and into the implementation guidelines for the operational policies of a higher education institution (HEI).

HEIs thus become more adaptable, innovative, and socially engaged, resulting in greater impact and a stronger global position in the face of today’s rapid changes. To implement this transition project, ISLA initiated a strategic partnership with CIFAL Flanders, a center of expertise affiliated with the United Nations (UNITAR) on the SDGs.

Dirk Franco, a sustainability expert, led a workshop that addressed the Multilevel Perspective (MLP), a powerful tool for understanding transition processes. He also presented the case study of PXL, a HEI that has earned the SDG Champion label (2023) and is now working toward obtaining the SDG Ambassador label.
