Four ISLA Gaia staff members - Rosária Silva, Rosalina Pires, Magda Carmo and Joana Serôdio - took part, from 13 to 17 July, in the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) "Higher Education Addressing the Erasmus+ Horizontal Priority: Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change", held at the Catholic University of Croatia in Zagreb.
Organised by the University Centre Laudato Si' and funded by the Erasmus+ programme, the BIP brought together staff from European institutions to consider how higher education can respond to climate change. Over the week, the participants explored the concept of "integral ecology", drawn from the encyclical Laudato Si' (2015), and examined green transition policies, "green campus" models and good practice in sustainable development at universities. The programme combined lectures, workshops and collaborative analysis of good practice, and concluded with the drafting of proposals to strengthen sustainable practices at the participants' home institutions.
Alongside the in-person week, two online sessions were held, for preparation and evaluation. The participation reaffirms ISLA Gaia's commitment to staff mobility, internationalisation and development initiatives linked to sustainability, under the Erasmus+ programme.
