1st edition of the Media Xperience RoadShow
On 12 May, ISLA Gaia hosted the first edition of the Media Xperience RoadShow, an initiative promoted by CECAM – Centre of Excellence and Pedagogical Innovation in Cinema and Media Arts, which transformed the institution into a unique space for reflection, creativity, experimentation and dialogue on the future of higher education, Media Arts and pedagogical innovation.
Over the course of a day marked by conferences, round-table discussions, presentations of student projects and moments of interdisciplinary exchange, the event brought together lecturers, researchers, artists, professionals from the creative industries, students and representatives from external schools, in a broad-based participation that confirmed the relevance and necessity of this type of initiative within the contemporary academic landscape.
The programme featured leading guests from the fields of communication, design, multimedia, education, neuroscience, digital art and research, including Ana Oliveira, Gisela Rebelo Magalhães, Julien Diogo, Laura Oliveira, Nuno Duarte Martins, Rui Torres, Gustavo Costa and Rodrigo Carvalho.
The various presentations provided an opportunity to compare perspectives on digital creativity, artificial intelligence, interaction, pedagogy, ethics, art and technology, reinforcing the importance of building a higher education system that is more collaborative, experimental and attuned to the challenges of the present and the future.
The high turnout at the event and the atmosphere of camaraderie and sharing among participants were widely praised by the guests, who highlighted the quality of the organisation, the warm welcome, the dynamic nature of the debates, and the relevance of the topics covered. There was also a clear interest in deepening future collaborations between institutions, lecturers and students, thereby expanding the impact of this initiative in future editions.
The involvement of the academic community and the collective efforts of the organisers have showcased a cohesive, dynamic, innovative and clearly forward-looking ISLA Gaia – capable of creating spaces for critical thinking, artistic experimentation and genuine pedagogical innovation.
More than just an event, this first edition of the Media Xperience RoadShow established itself as a platform bringing together education, art and technology, making clear the need for the initiative to continue and grow. The enthusiasm generated, the quality of the contributions and the mobilisation of the academic community reinforce the ambition to consolidate ISLA Gaia as a national centre of excellence in the discussion of new pedagogical and creative practices in the Media Arts..
