    The Bachelor's degree in Digital Communication is a 1st cycle course, framed within the Bologna principles, and aims to prepare graduates for an increasingly competitive and demanding job market. This market is characterized by convergent communication, focused on the needs of companies, organizations, and their stakeholders, while not neglecting the technical and ethical requirements of professional practice.

    In this context, the study plan seeks to provide an adequate response to the need for multidisciplinary training of professionals capable of leading the continuous and urgent transformations required in an ever more demanding sector.

    Applicants to this study cycle must apply through the institutional access competition and have taken one of the following exam combinations:

    • 18 - Portuguese

    and one of the following exams:

    • 02 - Biology and Geology
    • 04 - Economics
    • 09 - Geography
    • 11 - History
    • 13 - English
    • 17 - Mathematics Applied to Social Sciences

    Candidates may also enter through transfer regimes between institutions/courses or through a Special Competition, according to the current legal regulations (holders of a higher education degree, holders of a Technological Specialization Course, holders of a Higher Professional Technical Course, or applicants over 23 years old).

    Applicants who meet the conditions set out in the International Student Statute may also be admitted.

    The Degree in Digital Communication is aimed at candidates who, having fulfilled the entry requirements, wish to obtain a solid education in Digital Communication combined with Computer Science, in line with the performance of professional activities in the area of Digital Communication. The candidates are young people who have finished secondary school or a vocational course, as well as adults (>23 years old) who often already have experience in the labour market.

    The Bachelor's degree in Digital Communication aims to provide students with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of digital communication, covering theories and concepts, technological tools, platforms, and cutting-edge relevant practices. It equips students with the necessary skills to communicate effectively in digital environments, critically analyze issues related to digital communication, find creative solutions, analyze data and metrics for decision-making, and use digital tools.

    The curriculum of the Bachelor's Degree in Digital Communication at ISLA consists of general and specific course units that provide graduates with the technical and scientific knowledge necessary to continue their studies at the level of a 2nd Cycle (i.e., Master's) or 3rd Cycle (i.e., Doctorate) in multiple areas of specialization, not necessarily limited to their main field of training.

    The Degree in Digital Communication is based on 180 ECTS, with a normal duration of six curricular semesters, which corresponds to 30 ECTS per semester, totalling 750 hours of work per year for the student. The fundamental areas of the course are: 320 ¿ Information and Journalism and 481 ¿ Computer Science, with the majority of ECTS in these two areas, 54 ECTS, corresponding to 30% and 48 ECTS, corresponding to 27%, respectively, with the aim of enhancing training aimed at the exercise of a professional activity, ensuring that students apply the knowledge and expertise acquired to the specific activities of their professional profile. The organisation of the curricular units (UC) breaks down between contact hours and autonomous work hours (outside of class) for 15 weeks. The workload is based on the allocation of 1 ECTS = 25 hours of work, divided between autonomous work and contact hours. For example, a course with 5 ECTS corresponds to 125h, if it has 60h of contact, the other 65h are autonomous work. The Degree in Digital Communication runs during the day (09h00 to 18h00) and can also run after work (19h00 to 22h40).
